80 years of passion, 80 years of hospitality, 80 years for Rome
Rome, city built “for the illustrious visitor”, has hospitality as its essential mission. From pilgrims, for whom the streets were created and shaped, to ancient and modern tourists, the Eternal City offers itself both to the world and the stranger through the image of St. Peter’s Square embrace. Today, few people remember the indissoluble bond between the city and those who work in the hospitality industry, but there are stories that are still tangible. And passions that become history.
A common passion for hospitality unites Giuseppe Roscioli with Anna Maria Pallavicini, young newlyweds that open in Nice their very first hotel. But Rome is in their destiny. In 1932, while sitting in the Grand’Italia café, in Esedra Square, two friends propose Giuseppe and Anna Maria to buy a little boarding house on the second floor of an aristocratic house, built in 1888, near Termini Station. That is the beginning of a story, the beginning of “our” story.
In 1933, they open the “Pensione Roscioli”, the first boarding house in Rome with running water in all rooms, and the family destiny is tightly connected to the Capital and the Italian historical events: In 1943 the hotel becomes a German Army command, and then, after the Liberation of Rome, it becomes a British Army base.
Giuseppe, Anna Maria and their sons, Dario, Franco, Claudio and Livio, must help their family go through one of the most dramatic periods of our history, but their passion still remains and gets stronger. After the war, the family renovates so thoroughly the hotel that friends and habitual customers are amazed and rename it “Universo”. Aware of the importance of hospitality in Rome, the Rosciolis keep on renovating the new Hotel Universo. In 1957, the hotel 300-seat Conference Room is the largest and the newest of the city.
Through the years, the family as well as its passion grows up. From 1984, one after the other, new hotels add: President, Royal Santina, Claridge, Raffaello, those quality is approved by some important international hotel chains, such as Best Western and Hilton.
In 2019 the Roscioli Group expanded its borders: The Corner Duomo Hotel was born, the first hotel in Milan of the group, in an exclusive position close to the Duomo.
To this day, the Roscioli Group, with its three and four stars of elegance and its own history, continuously connected to hotel business in Rome from 1933, represents a unique icon in the Eternal City, always devoted to hospitality.
The Group’s success is now in the hands of the descendents that keep on accommodating the guest both with the warmth of tradition and the innovation that the family still provides in its five hotels, but most of all, starting from the beginning of the 20th century, from father to son it expresses a deep feeling that we call “passion”. Recently the Roscioli family has blown out 80 candles to celebrate the years spent in the heart of the capital.
This is the fourth generation, the story continues… And it is still an extraordinary adventure!
